We’re not sure what’s more amazing – this custom wedding dress or the fact that Anomalie bride Krishilda even had a bespoke dog dress made to match with excess fabric from her gown. If that isn’t wedding GOALS, we’re not sure what is!
She’s sharing an inside look at how her lace wedding gown with deep v back came to fruition (and all the deets on her pup’s dress, too)!
What did you have in mind when starting the process of designing your dress?
I put a lot of thought into how I wanted to feel on our wedding day. I wanted to feel beautiful, feminine and timeless. I also took the vibe, venue and season of our wedding into consideration to make sure everything tied together.
What inspired your dress dreams? Especially that gorgeous lace bodice!
I scoured Pinterest, Instagram and wedding blogs for inspiration and was obsessed with the idea of bold floral applique layered over a soft, dreamy tulle. To add a touch of sultriness, I went with a sheer bodice accentuated with a gorgeous v-back. Kristi found the PERFECT lace for my dress and the Anomalie team placed each applique just right—making sure to cover up all of the important body parts.
We topped it all off with white piping around the bodice to add a modern touch that emphasized the wrap neckline in front. Everything combined perfectly to create a dress that was both romantic and feminine. I felt so beautiful and most importantly, I was confident there would be no wardrobe malfunctions during the wedding.
How did you enjoy the whole Anomalie process? What was your favorite part?
The Anomalie process was just as easy as it was fun. Kristi and Stephanie were there to answer all my questions and provided their expert guidance the whole way. It was super easy to chat with them through phone calls, FaceTime and texts—it honestly felt like I was designing a dress with my friends!
My favorite part of the process was being able to choose every detail. Receiving physical fabric swatches along with photos and videos at every step was extremely helpful, especially when working with them from the opposite coast. I was so excited each time I got an email from Anomalie because I couldn’t wait to see the latest update on my dress.
To sum it up: I loved having dedicated stylists that got to know me and understand my vision. It was truly a personal process and I plan to keep in touch with them for years to come!
What is your favorite part of your dress?
The lacework was stunning and definitely my favorite part. Each applique was expertly placed on the bodice and the way the lace transitioned softly into the tulle skirt made it feel effortlessly romantic. It was exactly the look I was going for! I also loved how comfortable I felt in the dress. It was 86 degrees outside but with the humidity in Virginia, it was sweltering! Even in the heat, the dress felt light and breathable.
Tell us a bit about your wedding day!
We hosted our wedding at Rounton Farm in Orange, Virginia. The rolling hills and rustic barn were already so beautiful that we went for minimal decor and lots of fresh greenery. My mother made our three-tiered wedding cake along with seven different flavored sheet cakes—because, why not? We would not have been able to pull off our dream wedding without the help of our families and our wedding party.
We need to know everything about Olive’s dress!
The very best part of hosting our wedding on the farm was that our two little dogs were with us the entire day. Paxton and Olive were certainly dressed for the occasion and my mom even made Olive’s dress with excess fabric from my wedding dress.
What was the reaction to your dress from your friends and family? How about your groom?
Everyone absolutely adored the dress! The most common reaction from my friends and family was that the dress was very “me” and when you’re having something custom-made, that’s the best compliment you could ask for! My husband loved the dress too! He had the biggest grin on his face during our first look and called it “perfect”. His favorite part of the dress was the low v-back.
Any advice to brides-to-be thinking about a custom dress?
Don’t get your measurements taken in January after you’ve indulged in turkey and cocktails over the holiday season and are not your usual size! The second piece of advice is to not be afraid to stick to what you know. It can be a little scary investing in a custom dress that you haven’t tried on, but sticking to silhouettes you’re familiar with can help alleviate those doubts. I took inspiration from dresses I had previously worn and paid close attention to the features that were most flattering.
Favorite memory from your wedding day?
Our first look will always be a special memory for me. For just a few intimate moments during the madness of that day, our attention was solely focused on each other. Our photographer, Michelle Chu, and her second shooter, Meagan Abell, were incredible! They captured every minute, but always gave us space and made it feel like Ryan and I were the only two people standing there.
